Although the Cross Keys Road corridor in Gloucester Township, New Jersey provides consumers with choice and convenience, Jason Flinn, Brandon Funkhouser, and Janie Brandolini of Gloucester Township believe that the continued development of the corridor might cause congestion.
Flinn, a longtime resident of the Erial section of Gloucester Township, enjoys the convenience of the shops but is concerned about traffic congestion. “There are really some great stores that were not here a few years ago, but it seems like traffic congestion has really increased recently.”
In addition to the completion of several shops and restaurants located along the Gloucester Township side of Cross Keys Road, Howard Johnson’s proposes to build a four-story, 74 room hotel at 604 Cross Keys Road in Winslow Township, New Jersey. However, according to Winslow Township’s Planning Board Secretary, Darlene Dougherty, “Plans are still in the preliminary stages.”
Brandolini likes the idea of a hotel nearby, but does not want a hotel built on Cross Keys Road. “I think that it would be great for businesses to be able to have a hotel nearby, but Cross Keys Road is too congested to have a hotel built here.”
Brandolini and Flinn both agree that the continued expansion of the Cross Keys Road corridor might cause additional traffic congestion, however, Funkhouser remains optimistic. According to Funkhouser, “I’ll have to wait until and see if traffic gets any worse once all the shops are completed.” Funkhouser added, “Hopefully Gloucester Township will come up with a better way of managing traffic congestion.”
